Gone are the days when a princess needed a knight to save her or a kiss from a prince to awaken her. These days, princesses have taken on the task of saving themselves, rescuing their own kingdoms, or finding true love within their own family. And the princesses that kids love don’t belong to just Disney anymore.
Meet the newest princess in town, Nella. Nella the Princess Knight, mind you.
This princess is sure to inspire more than just the 2-year-olds at which the show is aimed. Nickelodeon’s brand-new animated series, Nella the Princess Knight, follows Nella, who is an unconventional 8-year-old, possessing the royal qualities of a princess – like compassion and grace – while also embodying the courage and determination of a brave knight.
Whenever a problem arises, Nella embarks on daring quests to save her kingdom through her unique ability to transform from a princess into Nella the Princess Knight.
The show premiers Monday, February 6 and though it’s not aired, my 6-year-old is already a huge fan. She’s aware of Nella’s friends Trinket the unicorn and best friend; Sir Garrett, a loyal and adventurous knight (and shares the same name as my other kiddo); and Clod, Garrett’s trusty steed.
I adore the mix of tough gal (sword wielding) with pretty princess (unicorn with a pink mane) for the same reasons I suspect my daughter does – because no girl is just one kind of princess. We all have a little tough with delicate in us, and we can’t wait for another princess in which we can really see ourselves!
